Stonington, Deer Isle

Cute little town!!! Deer Isle was the first place we were thinking of staying, and we took a trip there this afternoon (we couldn't check into our house until 3pm).

The bridge to Little Deer Isle.

The curvy, narrow, bordered only by rocks road from Little Deer Isle to Deer Isle.

Oh look! A moose!
Well, not quite. After several false alarms (branches, rocks, and even rusty barrels can look a lot like moose when you're dying to see one), we created our own photo op...

The public library in Stonington. It seems that all of these tiny towns we've passed through have even tinier libraries! Most seem to be about the size of a small one-room schoolhouse, but almost all have at least one person with a laptop sitting on the front steps taking advantage of the wireless. Unfortunately, there's never any warning that the library is coming up, so this is the only picture I've gotten so far.

Lunch in Stonington was at The Seasons, right on the water. Great view and atmosphere, less than stellar food, especially for the price. Too bad.

Back from Stonington, through Ellsworth, then onto Mt. Desert Island and to our house!! More on that tomorrow, it's sleepy-time now. But first, here a picture of the Sow's Ear Winery. We drove several miles out of our way, following a sign that looked promising. However, this is what we found:
Sorry for the terrible picture, but it's all I could get, since this place looked so horror-movie scary that Russ immediately reversed and got out of there! No wine-tasting for us, but at least we're alive!
